  My children have been patients for several years. Never had any real issues until today. Two weeks ago I was told my son would need to schedule an extraction for a non-loose baby tooth if it didn't fall out on its own by today. I was informed of this by a nurse with no real explanation as to why it needed to be pulled but figured I'd deal with that if/when I needed the second appointment. (That ended up being today.) When I arrived in the room with my child I told the nurse I wanted to speak with Dr. Matthew's about the reasons for the extraction. The only explanation he gave me was that "it was an 8 year molar and should be out by now" and "sometimes we have to do things in life that we don't like or don't want to" (in reference to my child who was terrified of having a tooth pulled). He was extremely condescending and offered no medical reasons for needing the procedure. No kind reassurance to my scared child and no talking over the process or what could or would happen if we opted not to move forward with the extraction. He clearly was rushed and didn't have the time for us. After a minute or so he rushed out after his comment to my son and off to another room. When the nurse came back I again told her I still didn't get an explanation and she said, "Didn't you speak with the doctor?" I told her that he and his entire staff seemed very rushed and I asked if they were overbooked. She then angrily replied, "No, we're not overbooked. We don't overbook. And don't you DARE say that we are!" She was extremely rude and unprofessional. I told her that I was not going to go forward with the procedure at that time and I'd consider making an appointment in the future. I'm all for being efficient but there is no excuse for not having time to offer explanations, time or compassion to your clients. I always knew that my children never really dealt with Dr. Matthews in the 6 or 7 years we've been going there because he would only poke his head in after the nurses did their thing, but after today's experience, they won't ever be dealing with him again. I will NOT be bringing my children back there. I also believe they may be routinely doing unnecessary procedures to fill their pockets. I'll find out when we see our new dentist elsewhere...
